China to Issue One Year Multi-Entry Business Visas “After the October National Holiday”

Via China Briefing:
Sept. 12 - Sources close to China’s Public Security Bureau have told Dezan Shira & Associates that China will relax its current strict visa issuance policies for business visas following the national holiday in October.

Beginning in the second week of October, China will start issuing one year multi-entry F visas, making it far more convenient for those traveling to China on business to enter the country. The new measures will assist with the various trade shows, such as the Canton Trade Fair, that China traditionally holds during the Autumn.

This new policy will redress the restrictions on visa issuance that were put in place prior to the Olympics, and will come as welcome news to China-bound business people visiting the country.

Should be good for networking now that foreigners will be coming back in, and for any foreigners still here and worried about visas.

Social Skydiving: The Art of Talking to Strangers

The single most exhilarating thing I’ve ever done was to make a habit of talking to strangers.
Nothing has changed my world view, and my life, more than taking the risk of saying “Hi” to people I don’t know on a regular basis. Whether I’m walking down a busy shopping street, longboarding in the park, or out at a nightclub, I see every moment that I’m out in the world as a chance to meet new people.

10 Ways to Instantly Build Self Confidence

Self confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and feeling scared out of your wits. Your perception of yourself has an enormous impact on how others perceive you. Perception is reality — the more self confidence you have, the more likely it is you’ll succeed.

Business Relationship or Friendly Network Contact?

Chinese salesmen believe that building relationships is a big part of their job. In traditional Chinese business, sales and relationships are closely linked. Both buyers and sellers understand the importance of a strong network in China. Many people who might not really be interested in buying from you will accept meetings or phone calls just to build your mutual networks.

How Often Do You Network?

I was recently asked this question after speaking to a local group of folks in the middle of career transitions. It took me a little while to formulate an answer after I realized it's not something that I think of as taking time. Really it's more of a lifestyle. I'm always networking.

Networking is Dead - Long Live Networking!
A few swear words, so avoid if easily offended.
Listen. Do you hear them? Do you hear all the people who are saying: "I hate networking", "Networking is a waste of time", "Those who network are cro-magnum men and they offend me to the point that I just want to scream, because I am a more enlightened person than those awful networkers"

It’s such a small world isn’t it?
“It’s such a small world, isn’t it?” You’ve heard the phrase dozens of times. Perhaps you’ve even used it yourself after getting to know someone and being surprised to learn that you have mutual friends or are in some other way connected. But, have you ever really stopped to consider how understanding this “small world” can help us achieve business and professional goals?

Manners Make a Difference

One thing that I think is really important to a successful networker is manners. That is right: simple manners. You know what I mean by manners. Say please and thank you. Follow up when you agree to research some information for someone. Return correspondence and phone calls in a timely fashion.

Uncommon Courtesy

The difference between a great networker and a bad networker can be minute. The good news is that you can really set yourself apart by doing very basic things.

Focus, Quality and Contribution

Over the last several years I've literally met thousands of people in the Austin business community. However, just meeting someone and exchanging cards does NOT make them part of your network. So my own 'real' network consists of several hundred people.
